2 Samuel 6:16
“As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.”
We all understand Michal's experience. An action by one would cause us to despise another. This is something we have to get over. As a christian, we are told to love others. It's tough to love one we despise. This is challenging and may be impossible without God. With God, it's a miracle.
It's the heart of God to love others, especially those that don't deserve it. I think of Jesus on the cross, He said, "Father forgive them. They know not what they do." That's divine. We will run across others who are difficult to love. We bring them to Him.
The bible says, "You have not because you ask not", (James 4:2b). We are to be dependent on God. We do become more loving. However, we will always run into situations that are too much for us.
Why wasn't David's wife part of this profession? Were they not getting along? Was she not into God? Possibly both. She had multiple problems. While David wasn't acting like a monarch, he was showing the people what one who loves God does. He didn't care what people thought.
God wants those that follow Him to be subservient to Him. This is making Him lord. Michal should have brought this to God and have asked for help. Some times we are unaware of our issues. The Holy Spirit will bring these to our attention.
How do we know when it's God who is talking to us? There will be peace. I Corinthians 14:33 says, "For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints." He also doesn't bring guilt. Romans 8:1 says, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." If we are ignoring him, then our consciences will condemn us. This one about guilt took me years to learn.
If we allow despising feeling to remain, we become miserable. This is sinful. It's an addiction of sorts. Jesus said, 'Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin"', (John 8:34). We become miserable when in sin. There is a strange satisfaction when we give in to these feelings. Hebrews 11:25 tells us there is pleasure in sin for a season. It's short lived. Misery is the long lasting result.
Jesus wants to set us free from hatred. He's a chain breaker. That's His ministry. When He calls us, He frees us. Sometimes it's spontaneous. Sometimes it abides with us. We become dependent on His power to remain free.
Lord, thank You that You can help us when we have hatred. You speak to us and give us love. What a miracle that we can love others. Thank You.
