2 Annointings

2 Samuel 2:4
“Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.”

This anointing brings together the previous anointing by Samuel nearly 15 years earlier. Talk about a wrinkle in time. When looking from a distance, we can't see canyons. We would miss the Grand Canyon unless we are at the edge. At the earlier action many may have thought David was king or at least he would be soon. David's years would double as he is 30 years old at this point.
We never see David yearning for the thrown. He was always supportive of Saul and an amazing friend to Jonathon. We don't hear talk of this. Even when it appears the Lord delivered Saul into his hand those two times, we don't hear it. From his men, yes. He squelches it as they speak of killing Saul.
David's patience with God's timing is very evident. His son Solomon said, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths", Proverbs 3:56. David was confident in this.
It's almost like David has no ambition to be king. That doesn't mean he won't take the job. It's doesn't appear to be a drive. God puts dreams in our hearts. It's fine to knock on doors and to rattle door knobs. He will open those doors in His time. Lay aside the ambition.
He was on the run with many people for a long time. He was patient. This is a great lesson for us. The Lord wants to do a work in and through us. He uses all the frustrations. They aren't roadblocks, but lessons. Who we are is much more important than what we do. Those difficulties are tools that mold us. Some are big and make large changes while others are more fine tuning.
There are acts and there is a profession. God's timing is in both. David was used this entire 15 years, he is finally in his profession as king. The same with us. He uses us daily. We may be in our profession or coming in to it.
He may switch our profession. He will open and close doors. Just as David never manipulated any circumstances, nor do we. God will do it. It's exciting to see Him do so. Who would have thought the eternal, all powerful God would bless us and put us in such positions.
He uses all of us, but most of us aren't very significant. But then we see in scripture that He seems to prefer to use the lowly. I Corinthians 1:28 says, "He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are". I love this and I rejoice to be a part of the lowly. God sent His Son to be born in a stable, not in a palace, not with the best care or in the homes of the powerful.
God doesn't have a drive to be in the popular crowd. He's good being in the background doing His work. Some may ask, "Why does He require praise?" Because it's the right thing to do. Nature is so amazing and brilliant. It's appropriate to say so and to deliver those thoughts and comments to the creator. He doesn't need the praise. However, we love to give it and crave to do it to Him face to face one day.
Lord, thank You for Your timing. You bless us with patience and all the things You teach us. Thank You.
