Ephesians 1:22
“And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church.”
Jesus is so much more than we could imagine. Colossians 1:7 says, "He is before all and in Him all things hold together." I can recall my physics teacher speaking of the parts of the atom having the same polarities that should repel from one another. Science can't explain it. This verse in Colossians does. Jesus holds all things together.
Many people minimize Him as one who gently holds lambs. While true, He also wields all power and holds all things. I can imagine the power in an erupting volcano. It's like the flicking of a match to Him. He also holds our hearts if we trust Him. This is where the gentleness comes in.
We've seen the impossible task of God hearing all prayers in Bruce Almighty. Except it's not problem with God. He hears and remembers. The amazing part is that He's loving and gentle. Isaiah 42:3 says, "A bruised reed He will not break...". This is referring to our wounded hearts. He gently holds and restores us.
The many facets of God, the power and love are so wildly different makes Him unique. It is so rare for a powerful person to be loving. That's the work God seeks to work in us. We tend to be one or the other. Pastor Chuck comes to mind. He was smart, articulate and had manly skills. Yet, he had learned to be dependent on God and appreciate His love and grace.
Many minimize Him because He is loving. He's not vindictive and they think a loving God wouldn't send me to hell. Little knowing that not to make right with God, they condemn themselves to hell.
Cultures who have fashioned their gods around nature see his power, but not his grace. Pele is the god of fire who people think wants all these sacrifices otherwise she will rain down fire. This breeds fear and paranoia. We already have some of those tendencies, this raises it to tragic levels.
Another faith that focuses on power over love is Islam. The world sees how they think destroying innocence is god's will. While God is a jealous god who wants people to worship Him, force and death is not His way.
While God is all powerful, He is also humble. He came to earth amongst the poor and avoided the powerful, the popular and the wealthy. I love this about God. He is the against the proud and arrogant. While victims lay in their wake, God remembers and defends the weak.
Thank You Lord for who You are. All of this welcomes and loves us. Our imaginations could never have dreamt of You. The longer we walk with You the more we know. You get better and better. I Corinthians says, "For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 Rather, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him." The same can be said about Him. We could never have imagined Him. Thank You Lord.
