The Awareness of His Power

Ephesians 1:19
“and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance of the working of His mighty strength”

This verse is a continuance of Paul's prayer from the previous verse. It begins like this, "I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened to know ... the surpassing greatness..." There is so much we are unaware of. Most of it isn't meaningful. Today's verse is very meaningful.
God is omnipotent. This is shared in relation to our needs. It's impressive to know He is the most powerful, but it's much more impactful when it relates to us. He is our adoptive Father, so just as a human father wants the best for his children, God does as well. Our human fathers are limited in foresight, but also in power. God isn't.
We have all gone to things for strength and encouragement. Sometimes that amounts to idolatry. This is an unhealthy reliance. We were meant to rely on Him. Our needs are meant to draw us to Him. Jesus said, "Ask and you will receive that your joy may be full" (John 16:24). This implies that we are distressed due to an unmet need. God wants to help. He has all resources and will meet it perfectly.
As this concept sinks in, we want for nothing. We no longer go on quests for empty things. We know that the Lord will allow it, if it's to be. We can place it on the altar and take it or leave it, based on if it's ok with Him.
Pastor Chuck Smith used to call this a light touch on things. We have wants and desires, hobbies and interests. His blessings are so good and satisfying, that we can do this. He knows that some things are harmful. Some of our requests aren't healthy. We just don't know it.
This contentment and a "take it or leave it" attitude also comes from Him. He is molding His character within us. We are grateful for His provisions. This is another dimension of His power in us. It can change a heart and point us on a different path. This isn't as impressive as moving a mountain, but it's significant to the individual. When one struggles for years attempting to change, it's amazing to realize that things no longer have that strong pull any longer. We've been freed from it. For some it's instantaneous, for others it's a long haul. It's a demonstration of His power none the less.
His power opens and closes doors. He can move circumstances to match His will. Most we aren't aware of. Some we are. This has the purpose of allowing His will to be done and to bless us and others. Some may not feel like a blessing at first, but will make us better and draw others to Him.
Lord, thank You for Your power. It does far more than we know. Thank You for the blessings to us and our loved ones. You are good.
