Ephesians 1:12
“to the end that we who were the first to hope in the Christ would be to the praise of His glory.”
God deserves praise. The reasons are myriad. Creation is the most obvious. The more we learn about science the more brilliant it is. I heard a pastor speak on this topic. One who has made his fortune on coding computers is Bill Gates. He made a comment about dna. He said it is far more complex than any computer code. The pastor tied all this together. No one would think that a computer coded itself, but was the efforts of many smart people. So, we draw from this that dna couldn't have just evolved randomly. There had to be a creator. He is to be recognized and praised.
I can hear the angels in God's presence singing He is worthy to be praised. It's not egotistical, but what is due. When we see Tom Brady pull of an amazing game, we all give him and his teammates credit. It's deserved. So also God deserves credit.
The marvels of creation are endless. We could focus on the beauty. Sunsets, sunrises, autumn leaves, waterfalls, an ordinary tree, our pets and so on. They present their beauty. God wants to provide this pleasure to us. At the very least we should be grateful. There are the awesome and wonderful parts of creation; the sequoias, tornados, Niagara Falls, sharks, massive downpours, snow, and all the endless wonders. These are just hints of God's power. We give Him credit.
An interesting mix with God being worthy is His humility. He doesn't identify with the upper class or the impressive ones. He chose a stable to be the birth place of His Son. He invited the common workers to be the first ones present (shepherds). He was prophesied not to be handsome or impressive in Isaiah.
He is also prophesied to be gentle. It says a bruised reed He will not break and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. He says of Himself that He is gentle and lowly of heart. This is great news to the wounded heart.
God is a defender. All of us need this. There are human foes which will cause us grief. Their reasons are different. They may want what we have or our being present might cause an obstruction. Our being a christian cause some to dislike us. There is an evil one who hates us and wants to destroy us. This is mainly because God loves and cares for us. The devil wants to hurt God, so he aims at His children. God is our main defender. He works circumstances to make them tolerable. He will bring us home to Heaven.
God is our savior. Original sin stained us and our own sin slammed the door of hope shut. We needed to get out from under our guilt. God sent His Son on the first Christmas. He lived a sinless life and died in our place. He rose again, beating sin and death. This paved the way for us to live in fellowship with God. This doesn't stop, but will continue it for eternity with Him. Thank You God.
He is to be thanked. He is worthy to be praised. His brilliant and beautiful creation deserve it. His character deserves it. His defense and saving us deserve it. All the wonderful, great and sacrificial things He's done for us cause gratefulness to constantly rise up in us. Thank You God.
