He’s a Wonder Working God

I Samuel 26:12
“So David took the spear and the jug of water that were at Saul’s head, and they left; and no one saw or knew about it, nor did anyone awaken, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen on them.”

Saul should have the most protected person. I think of the precautions taken to protect the president. David shouldn't have been able to sneak in and get those things. Particularly because it's been done before. His security was embarrassed and made plans for that not to happen again.
Yet here David penetrates the circle, takes the items and leaves unnoticed. The answer is at the end of the verse, "a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen on them". It was a miracle. Saul's people had done their best. All of the resources of the government couldn't protect Saul. There were 3,000 people present, yet David made it through.
David feared God. His dialogue with his partner displays it. It was David's conviction that to harm Saul was against God's plan. This instance and the prior one has David's men trying to convince him to kill Saul. It is clear that God gave him opportunities. These were also tests for David. Will he bend to the sway of the crowd? This is where Saul crumbled. The voices of the world and human logic swayed him. David demonstrates that he fears God.
God rewards those that fear Him. I Samuel 2:30 says, "those who honor me I will honor". David is a great example of that. David had done this his whole life. The Lord had given him small tasks in which he had proven faithful. The lessons never end. They graduate in complexity. He's doing things now that would have overwhelmed young David.
God is a caring Father and teacher. Jesus shared great encouragement about this in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light”. We can all exhale. God has made it easy for us. David just walked into the enemy's camp and took Saul's things.
The Lord will have plenty for us to do. We will be challenged and stressed. However, the Lord will produce His miracles and help us. His name will be glorified. There may be strong forces against us. They melt away in His power. Psalm 91:7 says, "Though 1,000 fall at your side and 10,000 at your right side, no harm shall befall you".
What exciting tales to tell. David walks through all the security unnoticed. He will do great things through us. We just trust Him and walk in obedience and watch the show.
Thank You God for Your care and wonders. What a privilege to know the Lord and to be used by Him. Thank You Lord.
