Galatians 6:2
“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”
Verse 5 says, "For each one will bear his own load." I've heard one bring a complaint that the bible's unreliable, as these two verses contradict one another. Not really. It's simple, bear your burden and help others who have difficulty with theirs.
The first brothers were Cain and Abel. Cain killed his brother and had this to say when God inquired about Abel, 'Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”' We are to be our brother's keeper. Not completely, but we are to be there for one another.
What comes to mind is a verse from the Hollies song, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother". Jesus said, "Greater love has no man that He lay down his life for his friends", (John 15:13). Jesus changed the world with His summation of the Commandments. He brought up challenges like, "If someone strikes you on the cheek, give him the other", or "If someone asks you to go one mile, go with him two", (Matthew 5:41).
This is the miracle of Christianity. We will encounter unloving people. We should love in return. Jesus gave us the model. On the cross, He said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do", (Luke 23:34). He works this love in us.
We have to give up the desire to get even or to "show them". The Hollywood tough guys return evil for evil. God has something different. Jesus said in Luke 9:23, 'And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me."'
We all start our days with our goals. They usually get interrupted with the needs of others. We are to assist where we can.
Lord, thank You for Your wonderful way. It's not all about us. You showed the example of loving and helping others. Help us to help others.
