Galatians 3:26
“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.”
What a blessing is this relationship. It’s a gift from our gracious God who is able. The relationship was wrecked when our first parents sinned back in the Garden. Unfortunately, they were removed from the Garden. But the Lord initiated a repair by giving them animal skins to cover them. This is very subtle, but they learned that a death had to occur for them to be right with Him. In this case it was the life of the animal.
Centuries later, they would learn that the life of the animals would cover their sin through the mosaic sacrifices. This was cumbersome, messy and sad. However, it’s what was necessary to keep them clean and right with the Lord.
The Lord brought about a better covenant through Christ. This time Jesus took away the sins of the world. He was our covering now. It produced a permanent an eternal relationship. The fault from the Garden was gone. We come to the point of today’s passage. We accept this relationship through faith. We just believe it and it’s ours.
Sometimes this concept doesn’t sit right. We like to be a part of the solution. We can feel uncomfortable receiving gifts. Most of the world’s religions involve the participants doing something to acquire favor from God. That is except Christianity. There is no penance that we can do to make it better. That has all been done through Jesus.
The Lord said He did it, so we believe it. This is the first action of an amazing relationship. In truth what makes it great is who we are in relationship with. Much like having a friendship with a sports star or celebrity. That would be cool. But knowing God is infinitely better. He is the most kind, brilliant and all powerful. He wants to bring all that into our lives.
I Corinthians 2:9 says, But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” Most could imagine some good things for ourselves. How none of it compares to God’s will. He know us better and what would be best for us. This also applies to our occupation, ministry, friendships and so on. We just need to trust.
Lord, thank You for this wonderful relationship. Thank You that went to all the trouble to repair it. Thank You that we just need to trust You.
