He Wants to Guide Us

Galatians 2:2
“It was because of a revelation that I went up; and I submitted to them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.”

The Lord wants to guide us. He does some guidance without our knowledge. Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” What’s true of the king, is true of us all.
There is also the guidance that we participate in. Paul referred to one type, revelation. This could come by way of a dream, a mental picture and so on. I don’t think this is common. How does He guide us? He gave the commandments and the bible. They would be the primary filter. He won’t ever lead us in a way contrary to His Word.
Much of life isn’t addressed in the bible. Some call these gray areas. With these there is freedom. What might control these is the concept of indulgence. Moderation would be encouraged.
He can guide us with thoughts or impressions. If it’s something that we want to do and it doesn’t contradict scripture, then proceed paying attention to any checks. The Lord may attempt to close the door by circumstances or our consciences. We rarely know it’s Him. It’s mainly a hunch. If there appears to be any resistance, then change directions.
If we don’t want to do it, but we have a hunch that it might be the Lord, then ask. “Lord, this isn’t something I would do, but if you want me to, then show me.” This is often how one feels about sharing the gospel. Our human nature is often embarrassed. We have to suppress that and speak it. This is sowing seeds. We rarely see a harvest at these times. This is planting season.
Another way the Lord guides us is through our own desire. This was touched on at the start. The passage about the kings heart is as channels of water, the Lord directs it as He wishes. Particularly if we are believers, because He has already given us a new heart (Jeremiah 27:4). We want to do the things He wants.
This is a blessed partnership. We are walking with the Lord. He protects and guides us. Lord, thank You for this. The God of the universe lives in us and wants to guide us. Help us to yield to You.
