Serving

I Samuel 7:16
“He used to go annually on circuit to Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpah, and he judged Israel in all these places.”

Samuel had a routines in his ministry. One of them was once a year he would visit particular cities and hear disputes. Much like Moses did. His calling was to full time service of which riding this circuit annually was a small segment.
Jesus also had routines in His ministry. Luke 4:16 says, “And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.” The phrase, ”
As was His custom”, informs us that Jesus regularly participated in the weekly worship services. This was in His pre-gospel years.
As we mature in Christ, we should also have a ministry. It means we should be giving our time to help. It may be childcare, church set up, the food pantry, handyman services and so on.
The Bible speaks of the church as a body having many parts. We are those parts. I Corinthians 12:18-20 says, “But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body.” Whatever our talents are the church should benefit by them.
The Bible speaks much about giving. We automatically think of money. However we are also to give of our time and talents. We should generously give of ourselves.
Serving is part of our purpose and Christian maturity. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Serving doesn’t mean we are mature, but we will be serving if we are mature. It will be part of us. Serving is a natural outflow of all the blessing given to us.
Lord, thank You for Your many blessings. Help us to gratefully serve.
