I Samuel 7:10
“Now Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day against the Philistines and confused them, so that they were routed before Israel.”
God will fight our battles. Sometimes without our involvement. I’m sure there are many instances when He fought and extinguished the situation before we were aware of a threat. When we pray, “Do not lead into temptation, but deliver us from evil”, He steers us away from particular fights.
In today’s passage, the enemy was strong, well armed, numerous and opportunistic. They posed a great threat to Israel. The people were vulnerable, as they were out there worshipping. Things didn’t look good. They were terrified. They asked Samuel to cry out to the Lord.
Then God shows up. Today’s passage has the Lord using thunder to shock and confuse the enemy. One moment, they were hungry for battle, the next had them stunned. All of their war training was useless. While in this state, Israel pursued and defeated them.
Times like this, the Lord wants us to be part of the fight. He wants to build confidence as well as trust in Him. Much like a parent teaching a child. The situation is completely controlled. The parent talks the child through the situation. So, the Lord gives a part in life’s difficulties.
Some of our situations seem overwhelming. Much like the terrified response in today’s passage. They thought they were finished. However, the entire story is a great lesson in faith. They ended up as victors. They got to witness God’s miraculous intervention. He will do the same with us. Most of His altering of circumstances we don’t see, but at times He want us to see His power. It strengthens our faith.
Lord, thank You that for Your protection. Thank You also for giving us a part in the battle.
