I Samuel 1:19
“Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.”
Hannah has endured a rough time in her married years. She had a bully living in her home. She greatly wanted children. No doubt her friends were raising theirs. Much of their lives and conversation was centered around their children’s development. She witnessed this with sorrow.
Hannah had great hopes in her Jerusalem pilgrimage. Many missed her and no one could help. Hannah knew that God could. She left feeling assurance. Her trust in the Lord was rewarded.
Today’s passage says the Lord “remembered her”. In reality, He never forgot her. He has His perfect timing. This was it. The Lord would raise up a prophet. Hannah wanted a child so much, she promised to dedicate him to the Lord. The Lord was waiting for that promise.
The Lord sees us. We may ache from a sorrow or condition. He’s with us. David says in Psalm 23, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me”. We may not sense it, but He’s there. At the right time, He will remember us.
Even more than that, He will work it into something good. Just as Hannah’s sorrow brought forth one of the great prophets, so the Lord will use our tough times. As we yield and trust, He makes all things beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Lord, thank You for remembering us. Thank you for sustaining us and in the right time, You make things right.
