I Samuel 1:17
“Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of Him.”
God answers prayer. Jesus said in Luke 11:9,10, “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.”
It’s wonderful to have the Lord intervene. It may be as simple as asking to get to work on time. On other occasions the requests are more significant, such as health issues. He will answer our prayers.
It’s been said that His answers are, yes, no or not yet. We need to pray with openness. Jesus modeled this in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus asked for this cup to pass from Him, but ended the request with, “but not my will, but thine be done.” He would have wanted to avoid the cross, if possible. There was no other way. He, being the Son of God, could have forced the issue and avoided the cross. However, all of humanity would have been lost.
Our prayers should end the same way, “Thy will be done.” This can be difficult. It was for Jesus. Up to this point, life was very tough for Hannah. Allowing for God’s timing and choices can be uncomfortable.
We need to take comfort in God’s love. We also need to know He is all wise and all powerful. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that He wont’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can handle. He will give us the strength. We may question this at times. We don’t think we can handle some things. We need to trust Him.
Lord, we are grateful that You answer our prayers. Give us the faith to wait for them.
