Gathered to His People, Heaven, pt II

Deuteronomy 32:50
“Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.”

Most are curious about heaven. What will it be like? Will we recognize people? Medieval artists portrayed it as life in the clouds. It’s commonly seen that we will have wings along with harps to strum. Unfortunately, this repulses many.
Today’s passage gives us some insight. Moses is told of his end and how he will be “gathered to his people”. Apparently we will know them. What a great reunion that will be.
Moses was one of the great leaders of all time. He is weary and in need of rest. Here are the highlights of his life: being driven from his palace home into the wilderness, accepting God’s call, a power struggle in Egypt, becoming Israel’s leader, ushering them out of a captive land, delivering the Ten Commandments, establishing a system of worship, leading millions through a wilderness and being being detained for forty years.
Moses interacted and worked with hundreds and possibly thousands throughout his life. Many were probably dear to him. He will be glad to be with them. He also had his family. His dear mother and siblings. Miriam and Aaron were coworkers in the ministry. There were uncles, aunts and others that influenced him. There are the millions of Jews that he rescued that would love to meet him. There are the countless others throughout history that came to faith through him and have been blessed by his writings (us). It will be a wonderful reunion.
In heaven, there won’t be a rush. There will be an eternity of bumping into people and reconnecting. We will be able to meet the Bible greats, David, Moses and so on. We’ll meet great historical figures that made it, George Washington, Isaac Newton, etc.
The Lord created us to be social people. We gain much security and joy from others. What we experience here on earth is just a sampling. In heaven, it gets exponentially better.
Lord, thank You for social relationships and they bring. Thank You that heaven will bring them to a fulfillment that can’t be imagined.
