Thinking of Heaven, pt I

Deuteronomy 32:50
“Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.”

Here we come to an end of an extraordinary life. Moses is told of his end. Many are afraid to die. This is due to the certainty of where they will go. This is a legitimate concern.
Jesus came to settle that issue. If we accept His forgiveness and follow Him, then heaven is ours. More than that, heaven begins when we accept Christ. We are reconciled to God and our walk with Him begins. In theory, by the time we die, we are to be so familiar with His voice that crossing over won’t be much different.
I imagine our walk with God as an ascending one; much like a mountain pass. One day, that path goes into the fog. So it will be like as we step on over into eternity.
Jesus says in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” This is the second part of connecting with the Lord, hearing and following. The more we respond to His voice, the sharper is our hearing becomes. If we ignore His voice, our senses grow dull.
Moses literally climbed a mountain. That was where he met his end. Our lives are the figurative ascending path.
Lord, thank You that You lead us like a shepherd. Help us to respond to Your voice. Thank You that we don’t need to fear death.
