I Thessalonians 5:5
“for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness.”
The last three times in this verse, darkness was addressed. Today we’ll look at the light. This is God’s nature. He is light (I John 1:5). As we accept His forgiveness, He takes up residence in us. I Corinthians 6:9 says we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Where He goes, so goes the light.
Jesus wants to turn on the light in us. Revelation 3:20 speaks of how He knocks on the door of our hearts, seeking entrance. He uses the analogy of a house. Once in, He wants to bring His light to all the rooms of our lives. This is a lifetime process. Like pealing an onion, the first layer comes off, but the next one will snap. In time, as it’s exposed to the air and light, it peals without breaking. So, He slowly knocks on all of our doors and turns on the light. This is a lifetime process that’s not completed until we’re in Heaven.
Each room is full of resistance and apprehension. He gently and slowly heals us. Isaiah 40:11 says, “Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.”
Psalm 139:23,24 describes this process, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” As we allow Him, He comes in and turns on the light. As time goes on, He deeper into our hearts. We have hurts and hang ups that we aren’t even aware of. He wants to heal all of us.
Lord, thank You for Your light and Your healing presence. With David, we say, search me and know my heart. Know my anxious thoughts and lead me in the way everlasting.
