I Thessalonians 5:3
‘While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.’
Today is the third entry on this passage. I’ve focused on the concept of procrastination. This comes from the fact that many people plan to come to Christ someday. Today’s passage is a shock to the plans of this person.
On day one I introduced the concept of faith procrastination. Day two focused on the unbeliever and how delaying faith has a deluding reaction which installs a false sense of security. Today I’m going to focus on believers and how we faith procrastinate.
Even those who call Jesus lord delay some things. Most things are small, but there may be some larger areas. I’m not referring to areas of growth that are in our future, yet unaware of.
These are the areas in which we are afraid to go or give up. We aren’t trusting. We could be afraid or selfish. Whatever the case, we aren’t open in some areas. I think of Jesus knocking on the door of our hearts in Revelation 3:20. As christians we have opened the door and invited Him in. Yet the house of our lives has many doors. There are some that we won’t allow God to enter.
We are putting off working on these areas. There may be many reasons for this. Some are more complicated than others. But we are delaying the work. Part of the reason we do this is we don’t understand the good God wants to do. Some of this misunderstanding comes from the deception of the enemy. 2 Corinthians 11:3 speaks of how we can be deceived just as Eve was. The devil is cunning and persuasive. He ever seeks to put a wedge between us and the Lord.
We need to adopt David’s attitude in Psalm 139:23, 24. He asks God to search his heart to see if there be any wicked way and to lead him in His good paths. This takes trust. We have a gracious God who wants our best. We all have our areas of concern. However, “His yoke is easy and His burden is light”, Matthew 11:30.
Lord, help us to bring all to You and to be open to Your ways. Take away our concerns. You are ever good and only want our best.
