Deuteronomy 31:15
“The LORD appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood at the doorway of the tent.”
The Lord appeared to Moses and the people. He does this on special occasions. Day to day life doesn’t require it. Hebrew 10:38 tells us, “the just shall live by faith”. We are to trust that the amount of revelation He gives us is enough. Sometimes it feels insufficient. It’s at those times we need to walk by faith. He will carry us along. Much like the footprints poem, we won’t sense it. However, He will bring us through.
There are occasions when He makes His presence known in a special way. The beginning of Jesus’ ministry was such a time. Luke 3:22 details how at His baptism, the Spirit descended upon Him like a dove and the Father said from Heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” Since the fall of Adam all have been waiting for redemption. Jesus is stepping into this role. This is bitter/sweet for the Godhead, as they are excited to provide a way back for the people, it involves Jesus’ sacrifice. A special introduction is appropriate.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, an angel came to minister to Jesus. This is almost like the pregame speech. It’s possible that the outpouring of wrath had begun. His burden could be sensed, as He was sweating great drops of blood (Luke 22:44). A huge battle between darkness and light was commencing. God sends an angel.
We will have our special times as well. Times when God makes His presence known. There are several reasons for this. At the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, He was validating Him. God gave His stamp of approval. As we are walking in obedience to Him He will validate us. Psalm 23 says that “He will prepare a table for us in the presence of our enemies”. He will honor us at particular times. We don’t need to promote ourselves. He will do it. It’s wonderful to feel His validation. It provides confidence and we sense His favor.
Moses was at a special time. His ministry was ending and he was about to die. The Lord was pleased with him and was signifying this special event for all to see.
Lord, thanks for the way You work with us. At times You make Your presence known in a special way. Other times You allow us to walk by faith. It’s all good. Help us to trust You regardless the season.
