Deuteronomy 31:24
“It came about, when Moses finished writing the words of this law in a book until they were complete.”
This was an amazing accomplishment. Moses had finished writing the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. Finishing can be mixed. For Moses, it was the end of his life. He was to say goodbye to his people. He may have been exhausted and ready to go. However, part of him may have been sad.
We finish stages and tasks from time to time. They may be self imposed stages or they be ones that the Lord has given us. One can finish school years, degrees, projects and jobs. The Lord has His own plan for us. As christians our lives are submitted to Him. He guides us into paths and according to His plans. It’s exciting to think that He’s orchestrating all our circumstances for a particular purpose. Sometimes we are aware of them, other times we aren’t.
We are wise when we sense His leading and form goals around it. We have to be flexible as we could be too zealous and over plan. He will give us signs when to back off or moderate the pace. This can be tough as our hearts may be invested. We need to pray and be open to His ways. They are the best for us.
Like Moses, we will complete some tasks and phases. That generally is exciting. Like an athlete finishing a race or a season, we are often tired and in need of something different.
We should celebrate completion. It was a big deal that Moses finished the Torah. Jews throughout history have celebrated. Christians also have benefited. When we are done with a task, celebration is deserved and appropriate. The Lord has memorialized particular, finished tasks. Jesus’ death and payment for sin is huge. He declared on the cross, “It is finished”. We remember that in communion.
Lord, thanks that You are with us in the different phases and seasons. Thanks that You lead and use us according to Your purposes.
