Deuteronomy 31:7
‘Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.”‘
This is Joshua’s moment. He had been Moses’ helper for a generation. I think he was content with that role. However, it was time for a change. The Lord does that with us, as well. We have our goals and we do our best to implement them. However, the timing is the Lord’s.
It’s appropriate that we do our best and knock on doors. However, if they are the wrong doors or possibly the right door, but the wrong time, they will remain closed. That’s fine. We should be thankful that God does this. Something isn’t right. He will continue to work on us.
Joshua had training for an entire generation. He had seen Moses in many situations. Now there was no confusing the timing. Moses calls him in front of the entire nation. The Lord will also open doors for us.
God confirms His voice by many things: open doors, peace in our hearts and confirmation of friends. That doesn’t mean it won’t be a little intimidating. Joshua had to be told to be “strong and courageous”. The next steps usually challenge us.
Joshua was at a high level position. However, God leads us all in the same way. Most are at lower levels and very thankful to be there. God equips us all where we’re at. Even the very private person gets God’s guidance. Some may never know what goes on with them. God does.
Lord, thanks for Your guidance. Help us to be patience for Your timing. Yet be ready when it is. Thanks for the care You give us.
