Deuteronomy 28:11
“The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your beast and in the produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.”
The Lord blesses His children. This passage indicates that those blessings expand to their children. Several analogies come to mind. If God blesses a farmer’s field with rain, the surrounding fields benefit as well.
How does this happen? It may work as the analogy describes, the children get the overflow of the blessing. It also may happen that the godly parent immerses their children in prayer. It more likely happens that the influence of the parent’s godly lifestyle is caught.
How is a child influenced by the parent’s faith? Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” This child will be raised in Sunday school, taught the scriptures, be a part of prayers, and more. When the parent has a problem, the child will witness the dependance on God. The child will witness a relationship with God. The parents will be praying with and for the child’s worries and problems. Their will be a living out of faith.
Does this influence save the child? Acts 26:31 says it has a strong influence towards it. However, all must must make their own commitment to Christ. Once one reaches an age of accountability, that one must choose. The chance of one receiving Christ from a godly home is much higher.
Lord, thanks that You have our children. Bless them and lead them in Your way.
