Deuteronomy 27:8
“And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.”
God instructed them to build a memorial on the border of the wilderness and the promised land. This verse says that His Words are to inscribed on it. The Lord is beginning to emphasize His written Word.
Not too long before, the people were given the Ten Commandments. This seems to be one of the first writings of His Word. Now comes this monument with His Word.
Today we are thousands of years past this time. We’ve got the entire bible. We know the importance He places on His Word. We are told to read, remember and obey it.
The bible gives wise instructions for life. The proverbs are full of comments about this. It generally describes how His Words provide wisdom as well as particular instructions.
The bible teaches us how to connect and have a relationship with God. He initiated it and continually reaches out to us. His Words give us instructions on how to reach Him. We have a spiritual part in each of us. There is plenty of well intentioned teaching out there. However, The Lord gives guidance in His Word.
His Word gives life. Hebrews 4:12 says that His Word is “living and active”. In Luke chapter 8, Jesus tells the parable of the sower (farmer). He describes the Word as seed. When we hear it, the Word comes alive and grows in our hearts. This is incredible. It begins to change us and give us new thoughts. Depending on our response, we can give it momentum and continue it’s growth or we can ignore it and it will die.
Lord, thank You for Your Word. Help us to remember and obey it. Thanks for the life that it gives.
