Being Thoughtful

Deuteronomy 24:12,13
“If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge. When the sun goes down you shall surely return the pledge to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before the LORD your God.”

The Lord cares about everyone’s needs. This passage has Him attempting to teach us sensitivity to them. He even cares about the small ones. The verse makes reference to a blanket. The Lord wants us to have a good nights sleep. That matters to Him.

I told a person the other day that I would pray for him. He basically said “It hasn’t come to that.” He thought he would be burdening God with his concerns. He thought it was more noble and pleasing to God to be self sufficient and tough. Today’s verse would be a surprise to him. It would be good news.

God wants us to be aware of people’s needs. He wants us to be know them, even if they don’t speak them. He wants us to be thoughtful to the point that we anticipate needs. If someone pawns a blanket, we shouldn’t assume he got a new one. But he might be desperate and pawned his only one.

We normally are engrossed with our own situations that we rarely put ourselves in another’s positions. We should do so. We should ponder what may be going on with them. Our initial thoughts may change or become more fully developed.

The Lord wants us to be sure that our business transactions don’t hurt others. Initially we are trying to better our situation. We have to be careful and thoughtful. We can at least have a conversation with that person.

Lord, thanks that You are aware of and care for our needs. Help us to see them as well. Help us to deal with others in a sensitive manner.
