2 Peter 3:12
“looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat.”
We, as christians, should be eagerly anticipating the day of The Lord. It’s in the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus gives one of the main reasons, His will will “be done”.
This world grieves us. In 2 Peter 2:7, it says, “and if He rescued Lot, a righteous man distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless.” It can be so distressing that the news is depressing. Many aspects of our culture is corrupted and corrupting. It’s working against God and His ways.
Peter uses an interesting phrase in today’s passage, “hastening the coming of the day of God”. He makes it sound as if we can speed it up. Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” This passage indicates that the message needs to go so far, then comes the end.
We have our lives and our little corner of the world that we have influence. Verse 11 of this chapter, Peter speaks of holy behavior and the Matthew passage speaks of spreading the message. We are to work on the areas of our lives in which God brings focus and to share the good news with those in whom we come in contact. I’ve heard it said that there will be a last person to respond to God; then comes the end. It may be someone in our sphere of influence.
Lord, thanks that You’re coming again. Help us to do our part in hastening it. It will be good to be in a world in which You
