Deuteronomy 20:1
“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.”
I love this promise. It sounds like a children’s bible story. It sounds to fantastic to be true. Yet, it is true. We aren’t to be intimidated by anything or anyone.
Starting with Egypt, Israel faced superior forces many times. When they were right with God, He delivered them. Often with spectacular circumstances.
We encounter resistance in our lives. At times the forces are too much for us. We are to check with God to verify that this is a battle we are to take. If so, then we can be assured that the outcome is the one He wanted.
The promise that God “is with you” is a wonderful one. In 2 Kings 16:16,17, Elisha was talking to his servant and said, “those that are with us are more than those that are with them.” He then prayed and asked The Lord to open his eyes. God did and he saw a multitude of angels ready for battle.
We need to have our eyes of faith opened. Instead of focusing on an intimidating situation, we need to see The Lord. This isn’t with our physical senses. Romans 8:16 speaks of the blessing of sensing His presence. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”. This assurance is a great blessing. To know that He’s with us makes all the difference.
Lord, thank You that You are with us and promise us success. It might not always be how we expect it. As we trust You, it will be according to Your will.
