Deuteronomy 9:6
“Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.”
God poured His blessings on His people. It wasn’t because they were so deserving. Quite the opposite. He called them a stubborn people. He blessed them in spite of that.
The same is true with us. God wants to bless us greatly. If we accept His forgiveness and make Him lord, He will. Our lives will be blessed and our hearts will be full. Yet, we are still flawed.
The Hebrews struggled with stubbornness. We may have more than one area. It may be fear, doubt, temptation, pride and so on.
Some things seem to always hang around. Hopefully they are at the periphery. Paul spoke of his “thorn in the flesh” 2 Corinthians 12:7. He prayed many times to be rid of it. The Lord told him that His “grace was sufficient” for Him. As far as we know this was a weakness, not a sin. It was supposed to be bad eyesight.
We will always have some struggles in our lives. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to rid ourselves of them. We certainly shouldn’t give in to them. Part of God’s work in our lives will be to minimize any sin in us.
Paul says in Philipians 3:14 that he presses “on toward the goal to win the prize”. We should seek to conquer those areas that drag us down.
In spite of our struggles and issues, God still loves and will bless us. Amazing grace.
Lord, thank You for Your acceptance of us. Even though we aren’t deserving. You still bless us. Thank You!
