Don’t Be a Doubter

Deuteronomy 9:5
“It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God is driving them out before you…”

Since the 60’s the US has looked at history through the lens of fairness. Today’s passage begins to shed some light on why God allowed Israel to take the land from another people. Some have looked back and cried foul. But God says the present inhabitants were to be evicted due to their bad behavior. God was being fair. Genesis 15:16 provides more evidence to this point. It says, “Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.” God was giving them time to repent. By His foreknowledge, He knew they wouldn’t.

We can trust God’s fairness. These passages give us proof. We will have a life time of things that don’t seem fair. At the moment we rarely understand. Sometimes the context of life will cause things to make sense; but not always. At these times we are to trust.

We need to put our faith in Him. Don’t allow the doubts to take root in our thoughts. The Lord has provided enough evidence for us to trust Him. Immaturity chooses to wallow in doubt. This brings us another tendency of our culture. It tends to belittle faith and magnify doubt. They often use the label of science to justify it.

The questioning nature of science is fine within certain contexts. It should be used as a tool with limits. Yet, some exalt it to govern all of their thinking. Not realizing that much of life can’t be tested in a science lab. Unfortunately our culture belittles those of faith as being anti-science. Our young people get a strong dose of that persuasion in high school and college. These institutions tend to be hostile to faith.

It takes courage to stand up to this pressure. The Lord has given us enough evidence for Him and His fairness. Resist the doubts and the pressure of the culture.

Lord, thank You that You’ve given us enough. Give us the faith to believe and help us to drive out the doubts.
