Through the Knowledge of Him, pt II

NEW

2 Peter 1:3
“seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence”.

Last time the focus was about learning of Him through the Bible. Today we’ll focus on the second type of knowledge of Him. That’s the experiential type.

Today’s passage tells us God’s power grants us everything we need pertaining to life and Godliness. However, we aren’t always aware of it. We get anxious and do desperate things. All the while God watches and is involved.

It reminds me of the child that cries at the many needs. The loving parent is right there ready to help. Over time the child learns to simply gesture or look to the parent. The fear has been replaced in the secure confidence that mom and dad will take care of things.

We go through life and face many difficulties. We have problems at work, relational problems, health problems, inability to reach goals and expectations, etcetera. We frequently face distress and disappointment. This is part of life. We aren’t doing something wrong.

God gives us personal resources to cope. We also learn to rely on others in a healthy way. This is typically learned during the school years. We are also to include The Lord in these things.

God wants us to ask Him for help. We aren’t being needy. I can recall people saying that they didn’t want to bother God with those issues. They would go to Him with the big things. This is not biblical. Philippians 4:6 says “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” We are being disobedient if we don’t include Him daily.

What He wants to instill in us is the confidence the child has in the parent(s). We shouldn’t let the daily drama get us down. He has all the resources we need. He won’t allow us to be tested beyond what we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Our faith in Him becomes very comforting.

Lord, thank You that You have the resources to meet our needs. Thank You for the confidence You want to build in us. Help us not to doubt.
