2 Peter 1:3
“seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”
David starts out Psalm 23 with “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” This is because we have a constant desire (some times need) for more. It may be a problem of some sort that needs attention. That problem could be relational, health related, work related, spiritual, ministry and so on. It might not be a problem, but a hobby that requires time. Whatever the case we are seeking something most of the time.
Part of this is natural. Solomon in the Book of Ecclesiastes called it “vanity and striving after wind”. He was frustrated with this repetitive, endless cycle. There is always more. As soon as one task or problem is finished another presents itself. It needn’t be frustrating; it’s life. We need to enjoy the journey.
Other aspects are the “want” that David addressed. We can always be craving more. Paul tells us to learn to be content (2 Timothy 6:6). We aren’t to feed the constant wanting.
The point of this is that we have ever-present needs and wants. Today’s passage tells us that God’s power grants us all the resources needed. We may not feel it, but it’s there.
He provides for us as we become aware of the need and seek Him for help. It’s rarely instantaneous. It comes gradually. What comes with this is patience. As we put faith in Him, we rest in the knowledge that He’ll provide. We might not see how it’s going to happen, but we have His peace and rest.
Lord, thank You for Your provision. Help us to continue to go to You and seek Your help. Thank You for the peace that accompanies this. Help us to trust You more.
