Deuteronomy 4:2
“You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”
I’m not sure how long The Lord has been guiding them. Since the beginning of His intervention, He has given them instructions on numerous occasions. Here’s another set. God says to obey the whole of them.
We are in a similar place. We live our lives and He has given us instructions as to how we are to do that. Those intructions are contained in the bible.
I’ve heard it said that “The bible is an anvil that has worn out many hammers.” There have been skeptics which have beat against it for centuries. These skeptics have have many emphases.
I’ve heard criticism that particular towns or biblical characters didn’t exist. Time and archeology have proven the bible. Others have attacked the inerrancy of scripture (still attacked). Yet, there’s nothing significant proven. The bible still stands after millenia.
Even the characters in Moses’ time opposed the word. There were plenty of times that this happened. The consequences were usually fatal.
God has given us His Word. We are to live according to it. This is greatly beneficial to us. In doing so our souls are rescued, our lives are put back on track, relationships are restored and so on. There is much motivation to do so.
It’s almost like reading the operating manual for a product. It contains the purpose of it and how best to use and maintain it. The bible is our operating manual. People have always opposed it. Yet, our american culture has honored it since it’s founding. That doesn’t mean all our actions have been christian.
However, since the sixties the power shift has gone to the universities, the entertainment industry, the media and more. These aren’t friendly to the bible. There are movements to cleanse our culture from all evidence of faith.
Lord, thank You for Your Word. Help us to walk according to it.
