God, Our Trainer

Deuteronomy 3:22

“Do not fear them, for the LORD your God is the one fighting for you.”

This is a great promise. As we go throughout our days, we encounter many difficulties. In a sense, these are our battles. This doesn’t mean the people we have disagreements are enemies. The analogy of a battle isn’t a perfect one. Yet, if we are God’s child, He is strengthening us and working with us.

I think of the manager of a fighter. He schedules fights that will build the skill and confidence of his fighter. He doesn’t pick opponents that will be too easy or overwhelming. They will be a challenge, as the levels are very similar.

God orders our day and experiences in a similar manner. Psalm 37:23,24 says “The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.”

For someone who was a skeptic, they would say, the Israelites are fighting, not God. The passage isn’t that literal. They had a part. God works in and through us in a partnership. He wants to build our confidence. He also wants to build our reliance on Him; our faith.

What an honor it is to have the God of the universe so involved in our lives. He’s more than interested. He loves us. Just like good parents are with and for their child in youth sports. They are cheering them on. So God is with and for us.

Thank You, Lord, that You are with us in such an extraordinary way.
