Deuteronomy 2:7
“For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing.”
This is looking back at a lifetime of blessing. It reminds of Psalm 23, but reversed. David speaks of many things that God does and will do for him. Here they are: he won’t be in want, provides rest (green pastures), quenches thirst (still waters), restores us, provides guidance, accompanies us through grave difficulties, provides us with needed discipline (rod and staff proving He’s our Father), provision (a table), honors us (before others), and promises goodness and loving kindness.
Today’s passage is looking back and affirming that God has done all that. We will one day be in the same place. We will look back and assess. Our hope is that we can say the same.
How can that be? How can we have a blessed life? By having The Lord as our Shepherd. We have a choice as to how we’ll live our lives.
That choice is done once, then daily. Romans 10:9 says that “if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord…you shall be saved.” We bow our knee to Him and tell Him we’re HIs and that we trust Him. We’re saved. However, we make Him our lord. This is a daily thing.
How do we know what He wants us to do? As we read the bible and go to a bible teaching church, we are filled with His Words. He’ll work that out in us as we live our days. He will alter our circumstances to be tailor made lessons. Sometimes nice and sometimes not so nice. Always good.
We are in for a wonderful ride. If we keep Him at the controls, we will be able to look back and repeat today’s passage. We will be blessed in all that we’ve done, our paths will have been purposefilled, we will have had His presence with us, we will not have lacked a thing.
I can look back at 25 years of following Him. I can attest to it. Thank You, Lord.
Thank You, Lord, for Your promises and provisions. Help us to stay on the path. Thank You that You care for us so much that You want to flood our lives with blessings.
