Moses’ Blessing, pt. II

Numbers 6:24-27 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, “speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, ‘On this wise you shall bless the children of Israel, you shall say unto them “The Lord bless thee and keep thee. The Lord make His face to shine upon thee. And be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift us his countenance upon thee and give thee peace.”‘” “The Lord make His face to shine upon you”. When our first parents sinned, their natural reaction to His call was to hide. God said, “Adam, where are you?” This pattern is repeated, by most of us. God is reaching out to us. In Rev. 3:20, Jesus says, behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any one open the door, I will come in and dine with him and he with me. God calls out to us all the time. At the lowest level it’s through nature (Romans 1:20). What is the attitude of His seeking? The purpose is reconciliation. The Rev. passage above shows Jesus attempting to mend the rift. He and His message is as a magnet that draws us to Him. What happens when we resist? Just like Adam, we often seek to turn away. When we resist, it takes effort and is contrary. To separate the magnet and the metal is against what’s natural. So, when we ignore Him, it creates stress and guilt. To live in this state is to have conflict at our core. Much of the mental struggles of our day would be alleviated by accepting Christ’s invitation to dine. God wants a warm relationship with us. Today’s verse says, “To make His face to shine upon you”. There is some complication in us. Our guilt gets in the way. He wants to forgive us. His gaze doesn’t feel warm initially, but receive His forgiveness wipes that away. Doing so makes us family and we are reconciled. Another passage says that “His Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God”. This is warmth. We are at peace with Him, thus we have peace within. Lord, thank You that You want to be close with us. Help us to yeild to You.
