1 John 3:14 “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.” John is giving a test to check as to whether we’re His child. Have we passed from death unto life? Do we love eachother? I hear people say, “I’m a christian, but I don’t like to go to church. There’s too much drama.” There is serious doubt as to whether that one is of the faith. If there were they would love the brethren. Those that love the people of God want to be amongst them. A christian will want to be amongst other christians. To love one another doesn’t mean we won’t have our differences. John says, “when we sin…”. The loving person makes it right. John says that loving eachother is the evidence of being a christian. Galatians 5 speaks of the fruit of the Spirit. The first fruit is love: “love, joy, peace…”. This wonderful trait will be part of us. For some of us it will not be that different. For others, it will be a miraculous change. This is a wonderful testament to the power of God. To see someone who is gruff, become loving. John describes the experience as having “passed from death to life”. This is a big deal. It’s probably visible from the spiritual realm. If we could put on spiritual goggles, we could see what the angels (and demons) see. I’m not sure if we’re zombielike, but it says we were dead. One type of death is seperation. When our first parents sinned in the Garden, they died. They were seperated from God. The life of God (His communion and presence) was no longer a part of them. Because of this there is the absence of love. God’s love wasn’t in us before Christ. Lord, thank You that You’ve regenerated us. We’ve been forgiven and we are now united with You. Your love is coursing through us. Help us to walk in Your love.
