A Job Well Done

Exodus 39:42,43 “The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.” These were the craftsmen that The Lord had gifted to build the Tabernacle. They were incredible in skill. All of their material was donated. None of it was ordered. They had to use what they had. After they were done, they went to Moses and told him. The passage says Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it according to plan. So, he blessed them. God created work. It wasn’t part of the curse. Inefficiency was, as it says their labor will produce thorns and thistles. Work is good. It can be difficult, but that is part of the divine design. When the craftsmen were done, Moses blessed them. When we are done with our work, our conscience blesses us. There is a sense of satisfaction. God put that within. In a sense it’s God blessing us. As we work, we are doing what He commanded. Not specifically, but generally. He is pleased when we do a job well done. Parents teach their children to work. They resist with whining, but through time they comply and receive their parents praise. As they continue they learn that the inner praise from their conscience is more validating than the praise from outside. I can remember doing my math in high school and feeling that satisfaction upon completion. Another high school example was from working at Kentucky Fried Chicken. I had a coworker, Damien. I had never seen someone work so hard. I began to mimick him. I began to get a reputation as a good worker. I would smile inwardly. It was like Moses blessing me. There were a few times in life were I was burned out. I began slacking off. I was busy with other things and needed some rest. I was also growing disinterested in my job. It was a sign that I needed a break, but also a sign to move on. Both jobs ended shortly thereafter. Lord, thank You for work and thank You that You bless us for a job well done.
