Exodus 35:30-36 “Then Moses said to the sons of Israel, “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31“And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding and in knowledge and in all craftsmanship; 32to make designs for working in gold and in silver and in bronze, 33and in the cutting of stones for settings and in the carving of wood, so as to perform in every inventive work. 34“He also has put in his heart to teach, both he and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. 35“He has filled them with skill to perform every work of an engraver and of a designer and of an embroiderer, in blue and in purple and in scarlet material, and in fine linen, and of a weaver, as performers of every work and makers of designs.” Ephesians 4:11,12 says, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;” He gifted all of us in a certain fashion. Today’s passage is so interesting because it’s personal and specific. The guys name is Bezalel and he’s been gifted with craftmanship and the ability to teach others the same skill. I’m used to gifted people being skilled in speech and influence. Plenty of bible examples come to mind. Present day examples are also numerous. Pastor Chuck is one. I’ve had several other pastors who were gifted. This passage is encouraging because we are getting down to the common person. Most don’t become pastors and teachers. Some are skilled in business. Others work in photography or healthcare. Some use their gifts in their hobbies. The Ephesian passage brings it together and speaks of how our gifts bless others. The topic of our place in the world makes me think of creation. All of the insects and animals have a place. Some are decomposers who prevent somethings from rotting. The large sea creatures have the tiny fish eat the algae, etc. off them. And on and on. This speaks to God’s wonderful plan. We also have a place. We have been uniquely gifted to serve. He uses our personality and talents at work, home, church and with our friends. Just as Bezalel has his paragraph, so could we. God could say “I have called ____. He/she has been filled with the spirit of God, in wisdom in all ____.” God could fill that in. He knows us and uses us. He wants our participation. While Bezalel was working on the Tabernacle, we have other tasks. God could put a name to that. We often feel insignificant. But God would name it and our usefulness in a second. Thank You, Lord, that You’ve uniquely gift us and use us. You want to bless others by using us. Thank You.
