Exodus 8:3
“The Nile will swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and on your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading bowls”
Hebrews 11:25 says, “choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,” This is referring to Moses. I want to focus on the last words in that passage. There is pleasure in sin for a season. Otherwise it wouldn’t be tempting. If there was no allure, people wouldn’t go there. Our present culture offers it’s own pleasure. Some of it is contrary to God’s way. Proverbs 5:3-5 says, “For the lips of an adulteress drip honey And smoother than oil is her speech; But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, Her steps take hold of Sheol.” The result of sin is not good. It can be a wrecked marriage, a divided family, poor health, a lost job, ruined relationships, seperation from God, anxiety, depression, addiction, and on and on. The people of Egypt had the frogs so intertwined in their lives that they were all throughout their houses. Even in the pots and pans. Sin is never compartmentalized. It permeates all of our lives. While it may begin in one small area, it’s cancerous and will travel through all areas of our lives. Just as the frogs were even in the kitchen, so the result of sin colors the entirety of our lives. Sin isn’t just an action, it begins as self determination. We were made to be in relationship with God. Rejecting that is the greatest sin. From that come all the smaller ones. Pharaoh used the Jews as slave labor. That was sin. The result of sin was God’s judgement: frogs in every area of their lives. Lord, may we all submit to You. Both the capitol S, inwhich we trust You with our lives and little s, where we bring all the small aspects to You.
