Our Inheritance Starts Now

Ephesians 1:11
also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,
We are heirs. Heirs of God. This is a big deal. I just saw an advertisement which was a picture of early elementary child in fancy clothes. It exuded wealth. That one picture seemed to bring the notion of the type of life the child had: private school, play dates with like children, educated/professional parents, new cars, a nanny, etc.. We are heirs of the king of all resources. We have access to everything we need. He doesn’t spoil us, as it’s not to our benefit. How do we get these things? The bible encourages work. Proverbs 12:11 says, “He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.” He wants us to work. As we follow His guidance, He will prosper our way. It doesn’t mean we’ll be rich. That may not be the best for us. We will get what we need. We aren’t like the child of the wealthy who extravagantly wastes and shames his parents. Some will be wealthy, as they can be a blessing to others with that. God is also the source of wisdom and knowledge. He wants us to be heirs of that, as well. We were created with our own particular talents. If we are of average intelligence, we won’t suddenly be on the gate track once we receive Christ. But He will want us to maximize our potential. More importantly, He wants us to be wise. Just like the wealthy have tutors for their kids, so as we are in His Word, go to church and are in godly relationships He instructs us. We would be overwhelmed with how much His hands are in the details of our lives. Our God is the source of joy and all emotion. Our inheritance includes that as well. Proverbs 16:11 says, “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” We are a complex mix of emotions. He will raise us to be balanced, but joy will be the undercurrent. Not like the unconnected high of an addict, but a connected purposeful fulfillment. Our inheritance does include much in the afterlife, but He wants us to receive His riches now. Thank You, Lord, for adopting us and giving us Your fulness.
