Why Are You Yelling At Me?

Exodus 5:21-23
They said to them, “May the LORD look upon you and judge you, for you have made us odious in Pharaoh’s sight and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us. Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, “O Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? “Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people, and You have not delivered Your people at all.”
Uh, oh. This was not supposed to happen. The people were to treat Moses and Aaron as heroes. Pharaoh was to allow them to go sacrifice. God sent them on this journey for this purpose. Now everyone was mad at them and blamed them. Obedience isn’t always popular. We may have done it perfectly and God smiles upon us. Some will be unhappy; down right mad. Pleasing God sometimes makes people upset. We need to realize this and not allow the opinions of people get us down. Of course we care and don’t like to make people mad, but we still need to obey. What they did was the right thing, they went to God and spoke to Him about it. They were upset. God did warn them. However, it’s always more difficult when faced with such wide scale disapproval. We need to vent at these times. Some may lose their faith. I think of the parable of the sower.  “The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.  But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” Matt 13:20,21. Difficult times will come. We need to go to God at these times. He will encourage us. This doesn’t mean everyone will be happy again. This is the process of fearing God, over men. Lord, help us to have the courage to obey and not to take it so hard when they do.
