Exodus 5:4
But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you draw the people away from their work? Get back to your labors.
Egypt’s economy had become dependant upon slavery. God’s original request was for the people to go for only three days. They eventually left for good. However, originally, it was temporary. However, Pharaoh did not want to pay for a holiday. He had his ambitions and his own gods to please. He also ruled a nation. The people saw him as a god. I’m not sure how much public opinion mattered to him. Whatever the case, this was a disruption. God’s will can do that. To the believer, it’s an inconveniance to tithe. Obediance of all sorts disrupts our plans. As we come to Christ, we make Him our lord and savior. The savior is the easy part, it’s the lord part that get’s in the way. We can defy like Pharoah or we can comply. In our agreement, do we do it willingly or is it with an attitude? 2 Cor 9:7 says that, “God loves a cheerful giver.” It’s to our benefit to learn to be happy about it. As we give to God, He sees it as a loan which will be paid back. His paybacks are with interest. Sometimes in the manner it was given, but usually in a full life. David said, “the Lord is my sheperd, I shall not want.” Ps 23. So, while yielding to God has it’s disruptions, it’s best to be flexible. Lord, thank You for Your generousity. Help us to learn to respond to You more quickly and with a good attitude.
