Exodus 1:20,21
So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
Jesus didn’t teach that we should overthrow the government. When asked about the topic of submitting to Rome, he said, “Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s and to God what is God’s” Mark 12:17. Paul also taught submission to the government, Romans 13:1,2. However, if the authorities contradict God’s commands, then we are to go with God, Acts 4:19,20. Peter did so and posed the question, “which is right to obey you or Him? You be the judge. As for us, we can’t stop speaking what we have sean or heard.” All through history christians have had this challenge. Governments have persecuted and executed believers for this reason. Our country was a destination for the pilgrims and the puritans. They fled their homeland because of persecution. Even though our government was founded on religious freedom, we are living in an age where people are hostile to faith. It’s very possible that we will have to choose who to obey. The choice is easy. The egyptian midwives didn’t obey Pharaoh. God rewarded them. I’m sure they were afraid. They could have went to jail or have been put to death. God spared them from this and gave them families of their own. God will also reward our obedience. Lord, give us the courage to obey. You will also reward us. If not in this life, then in the next.
