When Weary Of Heart

Hebrews 12:2,3
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.”
Have we ever grown weary, ready to lose heart in anything? Hope is gone. We’ve tried so many times that our attempts are much less than half hearted. Joy is absent. One’s affect is zombielike. We need to keep hopeful, as God will “not allow us to be tempted beyond that which we can bear” 1 Cor. 10:13. This passage tells us where to keep our focus, on Jesus. This is more than motivational advice, as in “if He can do it, so can we”. It’s more about who we are looking at. He’s God and He is the author and perfecter of faith. If our faith is dwindling, He can help. Just like groupees will go far to listen to their favorite writer, so Jesus is the author of faith. He can help. He will answer prayer and advise. Also, His perspective is good advice. His focus while enduring the cross was the joy set before Him. His joy was His reunion with the Father and our reunion with Him. We have plenty to be joyful about, present and future. Yes, there is pie in the sky and that is enough, but there is plenty here in this life. The more specific charge is to keep our focus on Him. When our faith dwindles, look to Him. The challenge to our faith will be specific. He has the answer to it. If it be “why am I being hassled unjustly”, know that He works out all for the good and He also suffered for someone elses mistakes. If we are doubting, know that He cried out, “Father, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” At His lowest point, His human side struggled and was confused. These are times when our metaphorical path is dark, cloudy and steep. We will second guess His will. “Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5,6. Lord, help us when we are weary.
