Hebrews 11:28
By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the first-born might not touch them.
This is the real “walking through the valley of the shadow of death”. One of each household died. Everyone was touched. It was almost like a plague going through a village. This is a type of christ. Jesus died for our sins. Those that accept his sacrifice will not suffer the second death, hell. But will be passed over. Ever since the fall in the Garden, God has been working towards redemption. This is a big one, passover. Yearly, the jews are to celebrate it and have a memorial to when their people were spared.
This was the original. The people couldn’t look back for an example. If they doubted and didn’t participate, one of their household died. They were very fearful. The plagues have been happening all around them. This one could touch them.
We will go through tough times. It’s like going to war, when our lives are on the line. This is puting our faith to the test. Do we really believe it? I think of the joke about the soldier in the foxhole. He’s got a rosary, a bible, the islamic crescent and something about each religion. When questioned he says that he doesn’t want to offend any of them. That’s not faith. One who trusted would be at peace. He could go about his business, focusing on the task.
The salvation deal is by faith. We don’t earn it. Our lives will determine if we believe, but the deal is by faith. I would imagine there would be fear and one’s gut would be unsettled. Like being on our deathbed. That’s the reason for Ps 23, “even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me.” It’s scary. But He’s knows that and will be with us. Moses and the people believed. They sacrificed the lamb and spread the blood over the doorway. It appears supersticious, but they were right and it worked. Many riducule our faith. But we still believe and it will be vindicated.
