Genesis 40:3
“So he put them in confinement in the house of the captain of the bodyguard, in the jail, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned.”
God directs the circumstances of our lives. The people put into prison with Joseph would be the key to his release, several years down the line. I think of the verse in Proverbs 3:5&6 “Trust in The Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Even though Joseph might not have been aware, God was in charge.
God’s guidance is a wonderful act of His love. As we submit our lives to Him, Romans 8:28 says, “He works all things out for the good to those that love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Even though Joseph is in prison, God can use that. He went from prisoner to prime minister.
As we submit to Him as lord, He works in our circumstances. He has a grand design. This world is an machine made up of thousands of gears that turn together. One gear effects the others and is effected by the others. Factoring in free will, it’s too complicated of a situation for the human brain. But not for Him. In the daily living of life, He is at work. If we trust Him, He is a master at His craft and will do something beautiful. To mix metaphors, He is an artist, who is making of us a beautiful painting.
As people, we need love and significance. God’s guidance meets both of those. His care and concern are His motivation. Also, because He is love, He wraps our lives in it. He causes us to be agents of love. He uses us to give it. But we become recipients of it, as well. He also gives us significance. This reminds me of pastor Rick’s book “Purpose Driven Life.” He has purpose for us. For some, it contains notoriety. For others, they will go through life unknown, but their hearts and lives will be full. Corinthians speaks of the gifts He gives. Some of us have a part, but it will be small. But because of His design, we will be satisfied. It’s enough. Thank You, Lord for Your guidance. It’s too wonderful to comprehend, but a blessing to know You’re in charge.
