Hebrews 10:19 “Since, therefore, brethren,we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,”
Tad Lincoln had the White House as his play house. He would play hide and seek, run from room to room and barge in when his dad had meetings. He would even ride his pony inside. This was in contrast to the people visiting. They would wear their best clothes and be on their best behavior. Their apprehension would be high. They came for a purpose; possibly to ask something of the president. They would be nervous and would have little assurance of having their request being granted.
This is how I used to view coming before God. I thought He was much too busy and I was too insignificant to warrant His attention. However, the above passage tells us to have confidence when we enter in. We have been forgiven, past, present and future. So, our standing is as Adam’s before eating the fruit. To avoid Him is like ignoring our parents after having grown up. It would be ungrateful and rude. God had daily walks with them. He wants us to spend time with Him.
We are often proud of our self sufficiency and imagine He is also. We think that He is impressed that we don’t have to bother Him with our requests. This goes against the bible, as it says to pray often. He wants us to include Him in our concerns.
We need to be more like Tad Lincoln. He loved his dad and was constantly dropping in. We also need to include Him in our joys, worries and requests. The bible says He is jealous for us. Just as a sweetheart is jealous when the loved one gives his/her attention to others, so God craves our attention (except for the insecurities).
Lord, help us to have the confidence to check in with You often. Help us to have the childlike faith which simply sees You as our father.
